Mountain Biking

Come along and discover the island riding through exciting trails with minimum effort. We have several programmes available, and, several Bike Rental deals as well..

Mountain Climbing

Trail # 1: Picos  Difficulty Grade: 2

Participate with us in climbing the highest peaks in the island. You will have a view over the most exciting valleys that form part of the island’s interior. Spending a day doing this will reinvigorate you for weeks. It works. However, advance bookings are a must since we require at least a group of six people to participate in this adventure

In the morning participants and bikes will be transported in a mini bus or jeep from Funchal or Caniço to Pico do Arieiro - a peak of 1 810 metres - where the group will start riding down. Descending Down the hills we will meet excellent trail roads ( technically of a low difficulty degree ) and cross levadas.

Trail # 2: East     Difficulty Grade: 1

In the morning participants and bikes will be transported in a mini bus or jeep to Camach, from where our ride begins following one of the island’s finest levadas. After a distance of about 20 Km we reach our destination point in Santo da Serra.

Tracking

If you are used to walking in difficult places and if you enjoy having adrenalin and your heart pumping then you should try our courses of between 5km and 50Km tracking. You will cross long winding paths and cross through other footpaths where no other pedestrian shows his face but you. There are daily departures for this adventure - depending on the start minimum group size of 6 persons participating.

Trail # 1: Pico do Arieiro / Fajã da Nogueira    Difficulty Grade: 4

Trail # 3: West     Difficulty Grade: 1

Travelling west to Ribeira Brava by mini-bus, the mtb-tour starts at Pico da Coroa (800 metres). From here mountain tracks take you to magnificent sights (lugar da Serra, Pico da Cruz, Jardim da Serra). This is an even lower difficulty degree course which will have as its destination point the city of Funchal

This particular adventure is reserved for the experienced tracker. You will have a chance to use some mountain climbing techniques in an unforgettable adventure through a dense forest.

Longer Walks

Trail # 1: Discovering Ponta São Lourenço    Difficulty Grade: 3

Short Walks

We will visit the far southernmost point of the island: Ponta São Lourenço. This deserted expanse is lapped by the clear atlantic waves and is soaked in by the warm bright sun to form, ironically, a desert landscape. This is one example of the many diffeerent and unique landscapes and microclimates that Madeira has to offer. This area has explorable crystallized rocks and fossils - also the occassional hidden  pirate treasure trove.... This area is only accessible by foot. It is a 10 Km sojourn that takes about 4 hours - but a meal and a quick swim is definitely on the cards.

Trail # 1: Camacha & Santo da Serra    Difficulty Grade: 1

Walking along the Levada da Serra (5 km) you will find a pleasant grove where the freshness of mother nature is always present around you, all year long.
This is a trail with a low difficulty degree, but with a high grade mark for the beauty in verdjante magnificence around you.

Trail # 2: Pico do Arieiro and Santo Antónnio Difficulty Grade: 3

Trail # 2: Rabaçal and the 25 Fountains    Difficulty Grade: 2

The trail begins at an altitude of 1 700 metres, in an area deeply marked by the erosion. You will find remarkable the difference between landscapes of the departure point and the greener lush pastures that you will travers on your descent

This trip takes us along to the west coast of the island. we will make a quick stop at Ribeira Brava before we venture out to the protected nature reserve of Rabaçal. After what would have been a delightful  3 hour walk we will continue on a found levada to visit the spectacular greenery and gushing waterfalls. A visit will be paid to the quaint village of Calheta ( on the sunbelt coast of Madeira ), and after that a look over the second highest sea cliff in the world: Cabo Girão - the highest in europe at 580 metres above sealevel.

Trail # 3: Caldeirão Verde    Difficulty Grade: 2

This walk that will be made in the highest area of Santana will start in the Natural Park of Queimadas through a winding levada. After that we will follow through several short tunnels to arrive at Caldeirão Verde ( Green Cauldron ) to find a majestic waterfall. On the return voyage a visit will be paid to the village of Santana.

Trail # 4: Ribeiro Frio & Portela    Difficulty Grade: 2

One of the most beautiful levadas on the island, where we can see some species of the indigenous forest. Before we start the journey we will have the chance to visit the trout hatchery. After that we will have the opportunity to birdwatch some wild species of birds.

Trail # 5: Rotary Tour of Carreiras    Difficulty Grade: 1

This is a tour to a village that makes part of the city of Funchal. Carreiras used to have one of the biggest granaries in Funchal. It is obvious to the passerby that whaeat  was cultivated in this area. The import of grains (usually cheaper from elsewhere) and the urban development of Funchal put close to this agricultural activity for more than fifty years now. Fortunately, due its geographic location the area has remained unchanged until today. They still have stone built cow-sheds, threshing-floors for wheat, the odd water mill and so on. This is a sure favourite for those who need a gentle and relaxing walk.

Trail # 6: Campanário/Boa Morte (Levada do Norte)    Difficulty Grade: 2

This walk is an exhuberant 3 hour meander through richly cultivated lands. We follow this 10 Km walk to photoshoot and admire the furious plantlife sprouting from everywhere, especially through cracks in old houses. There are churches, private gardens, pine groves,  and a whole array of tree varities that look over the still and calm seas of the Atlantic Ocean. Drawn to the sea we entertain ourselves to lunch by the seaside. Thereafter, we will pay a visit to Ribeira Brava - a village nearby, before returning to Funchal.

Trail # 7: Machico/Boca do Risco/Porto da Cruz   
Difficulty Grade: 3

“The magnificent, luminescent north coast”

During the 4 hour journey ( 10 Km ) we will be able to appreciatte the wonderful contrasts that the island exhibits. Sun and Shade, Clouds and Open Sky, Bush and Pasture, Mountain and Sea. We would also investigate the skillfully tilled lands of farmers in the region, and then permit the wild fresh breeze to gently sway us towards Porto da Cruz where a light simmer meal will await us.
