The M3A ' University of the Third Age ' Madeira

edited December 1969 in General
Are you a new arrival on the island of Madeira? If you are, and whether it be of a permanent, semi-permanent or even temporary nature, you may wish to take advantage of what the M3A can offer.

What is the M3A? The M3A is the Madeieran version of the UK based charity U3A, which stands for University of the Third Age. Not a 'university' as we would understand it today, but in the original sense of the word it its people coming together to share and pursue special interests in all their forms.

How does the U3A work? A huge success in nearly every town in the UK, U3A courses are run by members, for members. It's a brilliant way to make new friends, share your experiences, learn new skills and keep the old grey matter working.

Member led groups are the backbone of the M3A. Each group is led by a member linked to their own interests, knowledge or skills. These are typically small groups run in the host's own home.

The M3A is now in it's third year and currently the groups running are two Book Clubs, one based on the west of the Island and the more recent Funchal based club; a Camera Club; a Digital Photography Course; Exploring Meditation; a Natural History Group; a Scrabble Group and a Writers Group.

There is a proposed Computer Workshop group and the opportunity for other groups if members would like to start something new.

A monthly Dinner Club rotates between the East and the West of the Island and gives members and non members the chance to meet up. Dinners are usually held on the last Friday or Sunday of the month.
