Mystery Bottle of Madeira

edited December 1969 in Madeira Wine
This bottle has been on a bookshelf in my parents' home as long as I can remember. It may have been given them as early as the 1960's but not later than the 1970's. The pale and pink accents woven into the basketwork make me think of the 1950's and 1960's. Unfortunately, I never thought to ask my parents about it. Can anyone tell me anything about this? The woven top is unbroken. The bottom of the basket is wooden. No glass is visible.

Many thanks for any enlightenment,
Laurie

  • Open it and drink it. It would probably be a 5 year old type of Madeira made from Tinta Negra Mole. The age of the wine is not how long it stood on your parent's mantle, but the amount of time it spent in an oak vat. So not worth much imho....
